Serena escapes

World No. 1, Serena Williams, was able overcome 52 unforced errors en route to a three set victory over the German, Anna- Lena Friedsam.

Friedsam won the 1st set in 7-5 thanks to three breaks of Williams serve, which, as we all know that is uncharted water.

Serena provided Friedsam with 14 unforced errors in set two, but she able to overcome her downfalls to win the set 6-3.

Williams upped her game as she usually does when her back is to the wall in the 3rd. The veteran won 78% of points on her first serve. She received an early break to go up 2-0 and never looked back winning the third set 6-3.

If we all know Williams she would belittle herself and talk about the downfalls that she experienced today, but she is still alive in the 2015 French Open and really could not ask for more.

Serena will most likely face Victoria Azarenka in the 3rd round, which will be an old-fashioned catfight. Williams owns the head-to-head series lead 15-4.

Venus bounced, but inspired

Though Venus Williams was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, everyone should still be inspired by the way that she performed in the tournament.

It was not long ago when she was diagnosed with Sjögren’s syndrome, which is an autoimmune disorder that causes fatigue and joint pain. She announced that in 2011 missed a great deal of time on the court. When she was on court she was knocked out early in events. In the past four years, she has not gotten past the fourth round in any major. Williams had been bounced in the first round three times in that span.

In 2015, however, Williams has already defeated Caroline Wozniacki to win the ‘ASB Classic and in the Aussie Open she defeated sixth ranked Aga Radwanska.

There are a lot of positives for Venus to take into the remainder of this season. At the young age of 34, Williams is playing her best for the first time in a long time. Be on the lookout for her to win at Wimbledon.

I can’s speak for everyone, but Venus Williams has showed me what it’s like to battle adversity and fight for what I love.

del Potro to miss the Aussie Open

Juan Martin del Potro will miss the 2015 Australian Open due to a nagging wrist injury. This injury has plagued him for nearly the entire 2014 season. Ten months to be exact.

Last week, del Potro played in the Apia International Sydney to prepare for the Aussie Open. There he did win two matches before losing.

He said this in a Facebook post:

The 2009 US Open champion also said this recently:
“I have to do what the doctor says. I’m still positive. I want to play tennis. It doesn’t matter how. But after seeing my level in Sydney, I think if I am in good shape and I’m healthy, without pain, I could be competitive again very soon.”
