Browns improve their QB situation

On Friday afternoon, the Cleveland Browns announced that had signed the quarterback Josh McCown.

The 35-year-old signed a three-year deal. Last season with Tampa Bay he started eleven games and passed for over eleven touchdowns and over 2,200 yards.

It appears that Brian Hoyer will not return to the team. As the Browns do not deserve the talent that he brings.

What does this mean for Johnny Manziel? Well, if you read Down the Line Sports and Entertainment often you know that I have been very critical of the second year player from Texas A&M. I still can say that Republicans have more faith in John Boehner (Speaker of the House of Representatives) than what I have in the Cleveland Browns or Johnny Manziel.

Quail Hollow to host the Presidents Cup

Team International and Team U.S. will battle in the 2021 Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina.

“Charlotte is a major hub of business in the Southeastern United States with a growing economy and broad base of sports fans, and the Presidents Cup matches perfectly as we look to bring it to exciting, emerging markets and allow a new fan base to experience the competition, pageantry and international goodwill that the event represents.” US PGA Tour commissioner Tim FInchem said.

The course has been home of the Wells Fargo Championship since 2003.

The U.S. holds an 8-1-1 advantage in the event.

Opinion on Lucha Underground

I’ve been watching Lucha Underground for the past month and I can finally give an educated opinion about the product. The show is a great hour worth of action. All of the behind the scenes action may take a total of five minutes.

What I love:

1. Everything backstage. The backstage is cinematic a suspenseful. It’s just like you get to watch a quality television show in between wrestling matches.

2. Usage of talent. Lucha Underground uses their talent the same way that Ring of Honor uses theirs. Only a couple of luchas have appeared on back-to-back episodes. They definitely do not run a risk of over exposure, however it is difficult to keep track of some storylines.

3. Lighting. The lighting makes everything seem more dramatic.

What I hate:

1. Intergender matches. In wake of the Ray Rice scandal I would think that promotions are staying away from this entirely, but Lucha Underground has had a male versus female match in two of the last four weeks. To me the best wrestling is the wrestling that is believable. There is no way a man can truly hit a woman and she bounces back up and then later pin him. I understand if there needs to be a blow off but not just because the GM does not like a character.

2. Gimmick matches. I like gimmick matches just like everyone else, but the ones that make sense. For example, as I said previously I don’t like male versus female matches. Seeing a female lucha team with a “little person” and “flamboyant” guy defeat the three tough hombres is just not believable. I have seen some tough women, homosexuals and little people, but to see them get dismantled the way that I seen the get whipped and still win is unheard of especially when the opposing team is made up of three bad asses.

3. Who am I to pull for? As a heel fan I am unsure of whom to pull for. I suppose it is because I have not watched it from the beginning, but at some point fans need to know who to root for.

I must say that I like the show and will continue to watch. It brings a different look and energy to the product. You can find Lucha Underground on the El Rey network. Check your local listings.

Bush and Hawk cut

Wednesday was a tough day for veterans in the NFL as A.J. Hawk, Jacoby Jones, and Reggie Bush were both released by their high profiled teams.

Linebacker, A.J. Hawk, is the leading tackler in Green Bay history with 1,118 in nine seasons. After the season was over he had surgery to remove bone spurs from his ankle.

“A.J. is a consummate Packer and we are grateful for all that he has given and how he represented the organization over the past nine seasons,” “He was a durable and consistent contributor to our success, but more importantly, he is a great person and teammate. The Packers are grateful for all that he has done on the field and in the community. We wish A.J., his wife Laura, and the rest of their family all the best.” Green Bay general manager Ted Thompson said.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported via Twitter reported that Reggie Bush, Lions running back, was shown the door after two seasons. This will save the team over $3 million in 2015. In the 2014-2015 season he only played in eleven games. Detroit has two stud backs, however. Joique Bell and Theo Riddick have the capabilities of being a great combo back duo.

I would think that both players will be highly sought after as second tier players who are still capable of being great.

Black History Month Presents: Anita Baker Top 10

You know, since I have been doing top 10 countdown I have been covering artists that have a signature hit song, but Anita Baker has hits that to me are all so equal.

Maybe it’s because of lovely deep voice or maybe it is in the way she makes her music so personal. The eight-time Grammy winner Baker has gone on to influence other greats that we have come to love like Mary J. Blige.

The last time he was captain in 2012 the U.S. lost 14.5-13.5 to Europe at Medinah Country Club.

Europe will name their leader on Wednesday, February 18.

Tiger out indefinitely

Tiger Woods just announced on his website that he will be out indefinitely because he needs “a lot of work on my game.”

Click here for a preview of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro AM.

“Right now, I need a lot of work on my game, and to still spend time with the people that are important to me,” he said. “My play, and scores, are not acceptable for tournament golf. Like I’ve said, I enter a tournament to compete at the highest level, and when I think I’m ready, I’ll be back,” Woods said.

Tiger is now ranked 62nd in the world. This is his lowest ranking since coming on tour in 1996. He will surely fall even farther on the Official World Golf Rankings as long as he is out, The Masters is in eight weeks, so the chances of him playing there are quite bleak.

He went on to add that the injury he suffered last week at the Farmers Insurance Open had nothing to do with he deciding to take a break.

Black History Month Presents: Lionel Richie & Commodores Top 10

Anyone who knows me knows that my favorite singer/performer of all-time is Lionel Richie. His music is timeless and incomparable. As a performer Richie doesn’t need dancers and all of the lights. All he needs is that voice and a piano.

As a young man, the world was introduced to Lionel Richie when he was the lead singer of the Commodores and in the early 80’s he decided to go solo and create many more hits.

Lionel’s music is so well liked, he decided to “countrify” his hits and made some of them better on the Tuskegee album. On the album, Richie teamed up with a few of country’s best artists and remade 13 of his and the Commodores’ hits.

Typically, I do a top 10 countdown and leave it at that, but because there are so many hits I have decided to do a top 10 for both The Commodores and Lionel Richie.

A few that didn’t make either list:

Tiger withdraws from the Farmers Insurance Open

In Tiger Woods’ second outing of the year he was forced to withdraw due to a back injury.

On the day he began on the back nine of the north course of Torrey Pines. Woods received bogey on his first and third hole. He was able to get back to par before getting a double bogey on the 11th. He then had to pull out of the tournament due to the injury.

The Masters is nine weeks away, hopefully he will be able to play at Augusta.

You can see his pitch in below.
