Kelly Clarkson Top 10

It is very possible that Kelly Clarkson is my favorite American Idol winner. Every song she puts out is some type of inspiring anthem. When working out I happen to get a little more energy when one of her songs get shuffled in. I will also always have a special connection to one of Clarkson’s songs. “A Moment Like This” was my high school class song.

These are a couple of new hits that are from her new album, “Piece By Piece”.

Little Big Town Top 10

Oh, Little Big Town, how I love the harmonies that you all create. The way that their four voices blend together is magical. Pain Killer, their most recent album is by far their best. It’s their most adult album to date and two great singles, “Day Drinking” and “Girl Crush”, have headlined it.

Here they are performing “Girl Crush” at The Grand Ole Opry.

LBT has done a phenomenal job of staying competitive in a very tight space. There are so many other talented groups out there. Lady Antebellum, Zac Brown Band, Rascal Flatts, and The Band Perry are all incredible in their own special ways, but Little Big Town happens to stick out.

The song “Pontoon” still seems to be not only a summer hit but one year around. Before I knew it I was jamming to a song about a boat, and I must say I still enjoy it to this day.

I hope to see the newest Grand Ole Opry members sometime soon. Hopefully, it’ll be the next time they come to New Orleans or Baton Rouge for the Bayou Country Superfest.

Let’s head to a “Little White Church” and check out the top 10 Little Big Town songs:

10. Your Side of the Bed

Black History Month Presents: Anita Baker Top 10

You know, since I have been doing top 10 countdown I have been covering artists that have a signature hit song, but Anita Baker has hits that to me are all so equal.

Maybe it’s because of lovely deep voice or maybe it is in the way she makes her music so personal. The eight-time Grammy winner Baker has gone on to influence other greats that we have come to love like Mary J. Blige.

Kirk Franklin Top 10

Kirk Franklin has been continuously putting out records that have inspired and motivated people of faith and even non-believers. In addition, he has had more choirs than I can name which keeps his sound ever changing. Tamela Mann, David Mann, Myron Butler, Isaac Carree, and others have all done backup roles for Franklin before having their solo success. From Dove Awards, to Grammy Awards, and Stellar Awards, Kirk Franklin has already become a legend in the gospel music genre and as a crossover artist. Not bad for someone who can’t carry a tune. The reason I like his music so much is because it is always modern. For example, he took classics like “Why We Sing” and “Something About The Name Jesus” and made them new while respecting their historical significance.

First, a few that did not make the countdown.

Give Me

Hide Me

Silver & Gold

A God Like You

He Reigns/Awesome God

 Something About The Name Jesus

  1. Hosanna

  1. Declaration (This Is It)

  1. Melodies From Heaven

  1. Lean On Me

  1. Brighter Day

Rascal Flatts Top 10

One thing Rascal Flatts is not is a boy band so don’t compare them to *NSYNC or the Backstreet Boys. The trio of Joe Don, Jay, and Gary sold over 22.5 million album and more than 28 million digital downloads. They’ve had 15 #1 singles, which led to their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and a membership into the Grand Ole Opry. Gary LeVox, lead singer, has a voice that is completely unique. This is one of my favorite groups because their music is soulful and quite meaningful.

I must admit I enjoy being a Flatthead.

Please enjoy the Top 10 song made by Rascal Flatts.

10. Rewind

9. Banjo

8. Dancing on the Ceiling with Lionel Richie

7. Fast Cars and Freedom

6. Easy Featuring Natasha Bedingfield

Happy New Kanye

It’s a new year and Kanye West is back with a new sound. In a song called “Only One” featuring Sir Paul McCartney is a ballad that has piano playing in the background. He dedicates the song to his daughter, North West.

Country Music Star Darius Rucker receives honor

Darius Rucker has come a long way from singing his University of South Carolina friends. Rucker began singing as the lead vocalist of the band Hootie and the Blowfish in 1986. His deep, soulful voice lead the band to a couple of Grammy awards. Also, the band’s first album, Cracked Rear View, went 16X platinum. Hootie and the Blowfish had hits like, “Let Her Cry”, “Hold My Hand”, and “Only Wanna Be With You”. The band decided in 2008 to take a hiatus so that Rucker could pursue a solo career.

Rucker’s first album, Learn to Live, charted three number one hits. They were “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It”, “Alright”, and “It Won’t Be like This For Long”. His second album didn’t fail. Actually, it was certified gold. But his third album, True Believers may have been his best one yet. It featured a remake of Bob Dylan’s “Wagon Wheel”. The song went 3X platinum, won a Grammy, and never ceases to get old.

He later went on to record a Christmas album, Home for the Holidays, which is in stores now.

This South Carolina Gamecock fan continues to break down barriers and make history.

  • 2nd African- American with a #1 country song
  • Only African- American to win the CMA New Artist of the Year
  • Became a Grand Ole Opry Member in 2012

It is honor give Darius Rucker this week’s Young Veteran award. Between you and me, I don’t think it’s possible for this artist to stop making great music.

Joe Cocker Dead at 70

Joe Cocker died of lung cancer on December 22 at the age of 70. He will be remembered for soulful and deep meaning songs. Tunes like “You Are So Beautiful”, “Feelin’ Alright”, and “Up Where We Belong” are all classics. In 1968, Cocker remade the Beatles song, “A Little Help from My Friends”. Cocker’s version went on to become number one in the U.K.

In 1969, Cocker performed at Woodstock along with Sly the Family Stone, Santana, Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, The Who, Jimi Hendrix and many others. Rolling Stone listed Woodstock as one of the 50 Moments That Changed the History of Rock and Roll.

Joe Cocker will be remembered!

Young Veteran Series Presents: The Anthony Hamilton Top 10 Songs

Since bursting on the scene, Anthony Hamilton has been a constant hit maker. He reflects a style of R&B music that is not common on radio today. This is why he is a prime candidate to be featured as a Young Veteran.

Anthony Hamilton recently released his sixth studio album, Home for the Holidays. Artists like Gavin Degraw, Chaka Khan, and ZZ Ward all make appearances on the album.

This Grammy-winner continues to “Woo” audiences by putting the soul back into soulful music.

Top Pop/Rock Songs of 2014

In 2014, Pop/Rock music welcomed an incredible rookie class of new artists like Sam Smith, Iggy Azalea, MAGIC, A Great Big World, and others. While Ed Sheeran, Paramore, and One Republic returned to hit making. Oh, and by the way, Taylor Swift was a huge free agent pick up. Year after year it seems as if a Pop/Rock star can be made after one song or they can fizzle away. The artists on this list appear to buckled in for a long haul.

Some of the songs that did not make the top 25 list:

Maroon 5- Maps

Iggy Azelea- Black Widow

Sia – Chandelier

Demi Lovato – Really Don’t Care
